Measuring fabric waterproofness
This garment has undergone a shower test of 60 litres/sqm/hour for 2 hours.
A fabric's resistance to water pressure expressed in mm of a column of water (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The greater the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a waterproof rating of 2000 mm can resist the pressure exerted by 2000 mm of water, which is the equivalent of a rainstorm lasting 2 hours.
Measuring fabric breathability
To test if a fabric is breathable, its evaporative resistance or RET is measured (test based on the ISO 11092 standard). The higher the resistance, the greater the fabric's ability to allow water vapour generated by the body to escape and disperse, and the higher its breathability. For example: RET < 9 = fabric is extremely breathable.
