The tapered cut adds a little bit of volume around the hips and thighs, and then gradually gets narrower towards the ankles. This adds length to your legs.
You can vary your looks by having fun with tops:

What does the weight of the joggers mean?
You can use the grams per square metre in the description of your tracksuit to determine its thickness. That mainly affects their fall and touch: the more dense the material, the more the drape will be affected.
However, a heavier weight doesn't necessarily guarantee more warmth. A brushed knit is lighter in grams per square metre, but warmer because it traps air, which provides more warmth.
